Content posted in the MIMA wiki is the backbone of the Mid Island Music Archive (MIMA). The principles below guide the creation and sharing of MIMA content.
Access
All MIMA content is openly accessible; no content will be placed behind paywalls or password protection. The primary goal is to document, preserve and inform, rather than to promote or sell. Links to sites such as bandcamp should be added in the references section rather than the body of the article.
Originality
Content needs to be original, accurate, fair, facts-based and verifiable.
Scope
MIMA’s scope is defined by geography (from Bowser to the Malahat, including Port Alberni, Pacific Rim & Gulf Islands from Lasqueti to Penelakut) and subject (anything primarily related to music: musicians, bands, venues, promoters, shows, studios, stores, etc.) Any subject for which music is not the primary focus is not suitable. Posts that don’t apply should find another home. Keeping the content outlined will make the wiki a bigger success.
Ownership. The intent of the Mid-Island Music Archive is to build a permanent, publicly accessible record of our community’s music history and culture. Original article text written and collaboratively edited by MIMA Society members becomes the property of the Archive and the Society. Textual content in the Archive is licensed by default under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND). Society members contributing copies of media files (images, videos, audio recordings, etc.) ensure they have appropriate rights and permissions to do so, and affirm that copies contributed to the Archive may be made publicly accessible as long as the Archive persists. Media files uploaded by Society members must be licensed under a Creative Commons license. Members may choose to apply more permissive Creative Commons licenses than CC BY-NC-ND to uploaded media files.
Collaborative. MIMA content may be edited by any MIMA member in good standing with a wiki account. Wiki content is better when there are more contributors. Others adding to your content can make it richer and more robust.
Impact over intent. Original MIMA articles must be free of content and language that violates the BC Human Rights Code. Discriminatory, intolerant and harassing content will be removed and its creators’ account and MIMA Society membership may be revoked.
Dispute Resolution & Deletion MIMA Society volunteer site administrators will review any disputed and/or inappropriate content reported, and remove content as deemed necessary.
Spam and Ads Unwanted, intentionally misleading or grossly inaccurate additions to pages is not acceptable. Ads don’t belong on the wiki either so please don’t put them in as content.
Duplication There should be only one entry per artist, event or location. No sense in having multiple entries for the same topic.
Copyright Please post only content created by you, to which you hold copyright or for which you have documented permission from the copyright holder to post. Do not post and/or link to material that isn’t yours unless you have explicit, documented and verifiable permission to share it. For instance, if you have recorded with a record label and would like to post the recording, check your recording contract to see if you own the rights to post a copy of the recording.
