The purpose of Mid Island Music Archive Society is to support the documentation and preservation of music history and culture in the Central Vancouver Island region.
- Open Access. Content is open access, meaning freely accessible on the Internet; no content may be protected by password or paywall. All content created for Mid Island Music Archive carries a default Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND) license.
- Permanent. To the greatest extent possible, content is available in perpetuity and digitally preserved.
- Original. Content is created for and unique to the Mid Island Music Archive, and not duplicated from or to other sources.
- Non-commercial. Content is not created or made available for financial gain.
- Non-exploitative. Content does no harm.
- Community-created. Content is created by members of the mid Vancouver Island music community, by themselves, about themselves.
- Community-owned. The Mid Island Music Archive Society holds moral and intellectual property rights to content created by Society members
- Community-governed. Mid Island Music Archive Society members determine content and conduct policies, oversee Archive contributions and editing privileges, and resolve disputes.
